This paper aims to investigate Venerable Master Hsing Yun's approach and contribution to propagating the concept of Humanistic Buddhism based on his idea of compassion. First of all, an analysis of Venerable Master Hsing Yun's idea of compassion is presented to describe how he encourages Buddhists to develop the Bodhi Mind, follow the bodhisattva practices, regard the salvation of sentient beings as their duty, and to further Buddhist developments based on the goal of bettering the world. Secondly, the paper discusses how Venerable Master Hsing Yun, with his compassion, serves and cares for people and society through cultural, education, and charitable activities. Last but not least, a summary of the structure and characteristics of Venerable Master's thoughts of Humanistic Buddhism is presented to describe how Humanistic Buddhism, as advocated by Venerable Master Hsing Yun offers care to the worlds; benefits living beings, establishes a Humanistic Pure Land with the spirits of compassion, wisdom, vow and practice; and how Humanistic Buddhism is put into practice through loving-kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity.
