摘要
本文以一八六○年以來有關台灣野生哺乳類的論文為主，概述台灣哺乳類的研究歷史。除以年代為序的敘述外，本文並據以評估，指出未來台灣哺乳類的研究應走的方向。

A history of mammalogy in Taiwan is described chronologically with a general account for each paper since the 17th century. Analyses are made as to it s categories of research orientation in mammalogy. The absence of basic research in mammals in Taiwan remains a critical issue in further understanding and utilization of them.
