With the short visit of the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama to Taiwan this year (1997), there unfold among Taiwanese people a vigorous mass fever to the Tibetan culture. However, due to the historical and geographic separation, people in Taiwan rarely have chance to understand the way of life and behavior pattern of the Tibetan people. The main purpose of this paper is to describe the history, life style, mode of subsistence and soci-cultural condition of the Tibet. It is hope that this introductory description may provide Taiwanese people a better understanding to the Tibetan culture.
