This study aimed to explore the learning effects of a creative swimming program involving basic life-saving, water self-rescuing, and zwemdiploma's survival training on students in the university. The participants were 49 firstgrade students in the department of sport and recreation. Data were collected from scores on swimming tests, zwemdiploma's survival tests, and from student reflections. The results were as follows: (a) 90.5% of students swam freestyle and passed the 25-meter swimming test in 3 breaths; (b) students understood the dangers in the water environment, gained knowledge and skills of basic life-saving, self-rescue, and survival, and learned to make floats and rope throwing equipment by themselves; and (c) 97.7% of students passed the 15-meter swimming test wearing clothing and without goggles, 88.1% passed the 3-meter diving test, and 100% of them passed climbing on the stand up paddle (SUP) boards by themselves. It is recommended that swimming courses in universities can add a part-learning method and introduce zwemdiploma's survival training to improve students' breathing and self-rescue abilities in water.
