Russification of the Bible: Ancient Ross Literature and its Transition to Modern Russian Literature

At the very beginning, origination and development of literature in Russia is closely linked to the East Orthodox which Russia receives from the Byzantine Empire, especially with the church Slavic Bible created by the Cyril brothers. Such starting point not only makes ancient Russian literature distinguished from the literature written in Latin or Greek, but also dictates its separation from the main stream literature in Europe, and finally proved to be a unique aesthetic expression of Slavic nation. With the independence of Russia Orthodox, translation of the Bible also changed from church Slavic version to Russian. Related to this process, Russian literature after 18^(th) century also gains independence from Slavic literature, and features in modem aesthetic expression. However, such literature, which is adapted to the secular reformation, relies on the Russian version Bible in terms of poetics and cultural spirit. Pushkin is the key figure in accomplishing this transition. Thus, the subsequent Russian literature is directed according to the changes of Russian version Bible and its explanations.
