Viewing the transformation and reuse of Miyahara Takekuma's residence from the perspective of the continuation of the landscape memory

In recent years, the reuse of the spatial field of cultural assets is regarded as the vital task of urban reengineering. Among them, the old buildings that have gone through a long history were repaired and combined with cultural creativity, resulting in some successful cases. Examples are Ximen Red House, and Tainan Governor's Mansion. It can be seen that the "old building" is not a stale thing. As a mark of landscape memory in the collective memory of urban residents, each brick and tile retains traces of urban changes. Starting from the memory of the landscape, the transformation of the cultural and creative field, the new and the old co-construction can be carried out. Using cultural assets to create economic value, the continuation of landscape memory, the maintenance of cultural assets, and the development of economic benefits go hand in hand. Takeshi Miyahara's Mansion, built in 1933, is a residential villa of the Japanese ophthalmologist Takeshi Miyahara. In 1945, after World War II, it was taken over by the Taichung City Government. The former residence of the Miyahara was used as the mayor's residence, city council guest house, and staff dormitory. Until Mayor Hu Zhiqiang was in office, he promoted a plan to reuse the idle space. He used it as an art and cultural exhibition space under the name of the "Mayor's Mansion." In 2016, the Taichung City Government adopted the "Planning Diversified Active Aging Plan" as the development direction of residence transformation. In June of the same year, the "Hongdao Elderly Welfare Foundation" obtained the right to operate. With the core concept of "Public Welfare and Cultural Creation" and for the benefit of all generations, "No.125 Dream of Immortality" has been created jointly by the youth and the elderly. It combines industry, government, education, and research, through the digital model for the cultural and historical collection, image preservation, event marketing, and business operations. With the "people-oriented" atmosphere, the brilliance of historic buildings has been re-lit. It also opened a new page for the memory of the landscape, its innovative and evolutionary course. There are points worth considering for the continuation of local culture from generation to generation and the expansion and construction of the cultural and creative industry.
