China initiated a new regional bank institution called the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in 2014. Whether Taiwan joins the bank is a controversial issue. This issue is a good case to investigate how the Taiwan media reports this event and what framing strategies the Taiwan media employs in the news. The newspapers in Taiwan are found to display different characteristics for four aspects, including the news contents, news resources, attitudes of news and news framing. The news discourses in Taiwan have faced the conflicts of rational calculation and emotional feeling. To break through these paradoxical phenomena, this article proposes that Taiwan should construct the new national interests' discourses from the perspective of human civilization to determine appropriate national interest discourses and gain further benefits from the change in the regional and international economics and politics.
