Teaching by using mother tongue is the education foundation of the Chinese Independent High Schools, an effective way of inheriting ethnic culture and values. From the perspective of Chinese Independent School students, this paper sought to investigate the influences of the macro-and micro-level factors of Chinese education, Chinese language and schools on their Chinese identity. This quantitative research employed the social psychological of ethnic identity and constructive theory to analyse the results. There were 448 students from five high schools of different states responded in this survey. Open-ended questions explored the students' reasons of learning Chinese language, as well as analysing how Chinese language is constructing their Chinese identity. The research findings revealed that the Chinese identity is largely predicted by two macro-level factors, namely the importance of Chinese language to individual and protecting the comprehensive Chinese education. Apart from that, Chinese identity is also significantly foreseen by the micro-level factor of the school as an ethnic cultural transmitting platform.
