儒學在語際傳播中的「以譯解經」

"Interpreting Canon by Translation" in Cross-lingually Communicating Confucianism

摘要


在儒學的跨語傳播中儒家經典必然會接受詮釋,在翻譯過程中發生的詮釋可以被稱作譯釋。那麼,儒學經典的譯釋行為也屬於詮釋行為。通過對儒學經典在跨語傳播中的譯釋過程的考察,大致上可以將譯釋這種「以譯解經」的行為類分為兩大類,即「以傳解經」和「以經解經」,前者又細分為「以經為本」和「反譯為經」,後者則細分為「以事解經」和「以義解經」。在「以譯解經」的過程中,作為主導詮解原則的「以傳解經」和「以經解經」是共時性地發生和運用的。「以傳解經」主要是負責實現經典譯本對原典的忠實度,其中考據性的成分居多;「以經解經」主要負責譯者主體對原典的義理內容進行揭示、凸顯和闡發,其中義理性的成分居多。「以譯解經」中「譯」的文本形態不一定局限在儒經的正文譯文,還要包括多種副文本形態,如注解、引用譯文的研究型著作等等。總之,儒學經典在跨語傳播中的「以譯解經」是中國經學傳統在漢學領域的一種延伸,它所對應的學科形態是作為漢學的儒學,或者甚至還可以再縮小學理範圍,它所對應的學科形態是作為譯(釋)學的儒學。

Interpretation is a phase one cannot skip when translating the Confucian classics. This phase can be identified as trans-hermeneutic, or in the case of translating Confucian canonical texts, is specified as "interpreting text by translation," which further falls into "interpreting by commentary" and "interpreting by canon." The former approach is subdivided into "interpreting based on canon" and "interpreting text into canon"; the latter into "interpreting in light of event" and "interpreting in light of meaning". These approaches to interpreting classics in the course of translation put stresses on different aspects: faithfulness, verification, profiling, or explication. In sum, interpreting classics by translation is an extension of sinology, which academically corresponds to Confucianism as sinology, and if regarded as a discipline, can be termed as Confucianism as trans-hermeneutics.
