Residential Space Assessment of "Aging in Place"-Taking the Case of the Apartment Complex as an Example

The research target is about the senior who live in the apartment complex. We evaluate the living environment of the senior residents that have requirement of "Aging in Place". Start with reviewing previous papers and then the executing site investigation, spatial measurement, evaluation of interior condition and interview with senior about their living habit on fifty-five cases. We start to find out that the ideal model for senior about "Aging in Place" is mostly to be able to keep their original living habit without creating extra burden for their family. However, with degeneration of senior body condition, the living issue like too many "Moving Room Numbers", long circulation, wrong spatial dimension, and obstacle of moving become to key issues for them. We provide our spatial improvement suggestion on three directions: 1. Moving without obstacle, 2. Using without burden, 3. Easy to maintenance. Firstly, "Moving without obstacle" is mainly on installing the handle in the toilet wall and exclude the resistance from the senior. Secondly, "Using without burden" is mainly to create a dry and wet separation toilet and utilized the hard, flat, and non-slip material (or at least to put a layer of anti-slip pad on the floor). Thirdly, "Easy to maintenance" is mainly to improve on comfort and security when use. The issue like wall mold, paint removal, tile broken on floor, and need more storage space to reduce to obstacle when moving, in order to ensure the living quality for senior with "Aging in Place".
