Contemporary Neo-Confucianism followed in the footsteps of Song-Ming Neo-Confucianism in criticizing Buddhism to the point of excluding it from serious philosophical consideration. However one representative contemporary Neo-Confucian thinker, Tang Jun-Yi, had a soft spot for Buddhism and incorporated some of its aspects into his theory of Nine Horizons of the Mind. This article attempts to extrapolate Tang's theoretical structure as well as its systematic meaning and then analyze, integrate and reconstruct the philosophical phenomenon in the hopes of coming to a more genuine understanding of the dialogue between Contemporary Neo-Confucianism and Buddhism. This in turn will also hopefully lead to a deeper understanding of the connotations of Chinese humanities, thus providing a fuller picture for both the present and future.
