Led by the Venerable Master Hsing Yun, Fo Guang Shan and its counterpart, the Buddha's Light International Association, have contributed greatly to the practice and preaching of Humanistic Buddhism, expanding its influence in the past decades. Since 1990, the influence of Fo Guang Shan has spread to Japan, where numerous Fo Guang Shan monasteries have been founded, and the publications of Venerable Master Hsing Yun and Fo Guang Shan have been introduced. However, till today, there are no study on Fo Guang Shan dharma preaching in Japan and its influence, as well as the way the Japanese regard and react to Fo Guang Shan and its preaching on Humanistic Buddhism. In fact, there are very little material of reference on the topic can be found. In order to fill the research gap in this aspect, this paper introduces the main research results, basic viewpoints and unique perspectives of Fo Guang Shan and Humanistic Buddhism according to the relevant papers of Japanese scholars.
