The "building couplets" (栋对) in the Liutui area of Taiwan is a type of couplet, a way of writing the history of the ancestors' pioneering work in the form of words on a house. It is a microcosm of clan history and is also known as the code of the ancestral hall. The building couplets can be broken down into different origins of the same surname and record the origin and later development of the clan in the original township. It has a profound meaning of "respecting the heavens and the ancestors", but with the changing humanistic atmosphere and the decline of ancient poetry writing, the building couplets, which is deeply characteristic of Hakka culture, has been forgotten, and this precious cultural asset of Hakka needs to be valued.
