The emergence of virtual communities opens a brand new world to humans’ psychological life, but the mental influence of virtual communities is still a controversial issue. The past internet researches focused a lot on internet addiction; however, the positive influence has been ignored and a positive index for psychological well-being on internet is lacked. Therefore, this study aims to build the index of “Internet Subjective Well-Being” to be a positive index. Two main traits of virtual communities are taken to be the predictors to “Internet Subjective Well-Being”. One is “Virtual Community Identity”; the other is “Internet Social Support”. The result showed there is no correlation between internet subjective well-being and the internet addiction and these two have different correlation patterns with other variables. The user identified more with his virtual community but feel more social support. The virtual community identity and internet social support both significantly correlated with internet subjective well-being. The virtual community identity and internet social support were better predictors to internet subjective well-being than to internet addiction. The result supported our theoretical construct of taking “Internet Subjective Well-Being” to be a positive index. The following arguments are also supported by the the current study: (1)Internet subjective well-being is a valid index for measuring positive side of internet life; (2) virtual community and internet social support are both key factors to improve internet subjective well-being. We suggest that future researchers can use both Internet Subjective Well-Being Scale and CIAS-R to implement a complete understanding of the users psychological accommodation in virtual communities.
