The current university dorms for professors are designed without investigating the residential demands of them even if the constructors know their future users already. Because of their profession, professors should demand a study room in residence. This research takes the family dorm of National Taiwan University as an example for investigating the usage and the area of the study room by the method of Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE). It will be helpful to make the plan be closer to the real demand and to satisfy the differences of satisfaction more fairly. Besides reviewing references and documents, the major method is to interview professors of National Taiwan University and to collect data by semi-structuring questionnaire. Moreover, the quantitative and qualitative methods are used to analyze the data. The quantitative method describes the whole trend of users’ demands and the factors which cause the differences of demands are discussed and described by qualitative method. The results of the research: 1. The differences of the demands are influenced by (1) age, tenure, and official rank (2) sex and the role of family (3) family factors, which include that if the spouse is also a researcher, number of family members, and the family life cycle (4) the relative position of a dorm and the campus where user teaches (5) the differences of research behaviors and information forms. 2. The results of the investigation of the 3 bedrooms and 2 living rooms in the dorm of the National Taiwan University are (1) two bedrooms and one independent study room (2) three bedrooms and the function of study room is included in living room. However, 47.1% of the interviewers hope that they can have one more room in the same size of apartment to become (1) three bedrooms and one independent study room (2) four bedrooms without a study room for study preparation or for doing research at home. There are 78.5% of the interviewers still choosing to have an independent studying room no matter if they have different levels of demands. It appears that the current dorms only designed in three bedrooms can’t satisfy the demands which are influenced by the effect of occupation and family. 3. To arrange the stipulation and procedure for assigning the dorms depends on the different demand levels of professors in order to satisfy the demands and do it more fairly.
