群播及廣播服務之區域配置機制

MBS Zone Configuration Schemes for Multicast and Broadcast Service

在各種行動通訊網路(Mobile Communication Networks; 簡稱MCNs)中,群播廣播服務地帶(Multicast Broadcast Services zone; 簡稱MBS zone)技術被用於有效地群播多媒體服務內容。一個MBS zone為一群基地台(Base Station)利用相同的無線電頻道同步地傳輸相同的MBS內容。跨MBS zone交遞(Inter-MBS zone handoff)會發生時間上顯著的延遲,造成不良的MBS服務品質(Quality of Service; 簡稱QoS )。為了減少Inter-MBS zone handoff的發生,我們可能增加MBS zone的大小,但卻會造成低效率之群播頻道使用率。本研究提出交疊機制(OverLapping Scheme; 簡稱OLS)及進階交疊機制(Enhanced OverLapping Scheme; 簡稱EOLS),利用較有彈性之MBS zone配置以增進MBS網路在QoS及群播頻道的使用率。我們提出了數學分析模型來研究原始的MBS zone技術,稱之為基本機制(Basic Scheme),及OLS機制;並利用電腦模擬實驗來分析基本機制、OLS機制及EOLS機制之效能,並驗證數學分析的結果。

The Multicast Broadcast Services (MBS) zone technology is proposed to efficiently multicast multimedia content over various Mobile Communication Networks (MCNs). An MBS zone is a group of base stations (BSs) synchronized to transmit the same MBS content using the same radio channel. A significant time delay incurs in the inter-MBS zone handoff, which results in poor QoS of MBS. To reduce the possibility for the inter-MBS zone handoff, we may increase the size of an MBS zone, which however may cause inefficient multicasting channel utilization. This study proposes the OverLapping Scheme (OLS) and the Enhanced OverLapping Scheme (EOLS) for more flexible MBS zone configuration to get better performance for MBS networks in terms of QoS and multicasting channel utilization. We propose the analytical models to model the original MBS zone technology, namely the Basic scheme, and the OLS scheme, which are validated against the simulation experiments based on which we provide more performance metrics for the basic scheme, the OLS scheme, and the EOLS scheme.
