Today, Green Buildings (GBs) are one of the solutions to global environmental issues. GBs and their benefits have been recognized by many countries and promoted as strategies to improve environmental problems. However, barriers to GBs, such as high construction costs, lack of knowledge, and interest in GBs in Japan, further indicate the need to develop appropriate strategies to facilitate wider adoption of GBs in the construction industry and building development. This study proposes GBs promotion strategies suitable for Japan's national conditions by studying consumers' behaviors toward green-certified buildings. First, we refer to BREEAM, LEED, EEWH and CASBEE, and then better understand the existing GBs certification system. Second, this paper uses an online questionnaire to investigate the knowledge of GBs and the factors that may influence consumers to purchase green buildings in Japan. The hypotheses are divided into three groups: economic factors, environmental factors, and social and psychological factors. Finally, we performed regression analysis based on E-views software and tested hypotheses by OLS. By collecting 316 respondents, we found that even if the cost of green buildings increases by 5% in house prices. Considering the two variables of "benefit" and "honor," consumers still have strong purchasing intentions. The adjusted R-square outcome of the full-model regression analysis in this study was 34.41%. Due to this study adapt empirical analysis, we found that "Environmental awareness" was not an essential factor in WTB. That probability value was 0.1516, which was contrary to our initial expectations. Compared with other countries in similar studies, this result is worth exploring.
