倫常道•菩提心——李炳南居士儒佛思想探析

摘要

李炳南居士（1890-1986）以儒佛兼修、儒佛並弘，而深耕民間教育之特殊姿態，足為承繼、回應近現代文化議題之重要人物，及戰後臺灣儒家精神、淨土信仰發揚之重鎮。從清末民初以來，中國佛教面臨之危機與復興契機，傳統文化面臨存續與重建之抉擇思考，百年來之儒佛思想流佈發展，李炳南居士可謂走過大時代歷史的人物典型之一。本論文以李炳南居士之儒佛思想為題，一方面深入李炳南居士之著述與弘化事業核心，探討其思想特質與學問本懷；一方面將李炳南居士置放於近現代時空背景與儒佛思想脈絡中，映照出儒佛會通的新型態與新意涵，以及載負文化傳統精神之人格典範，突顯其思想之獨特性與重要意義。
　　第一章「導論」揭櫫論題之題旨與意義，並進行前人研究之回顧，指出李炳南居士研究可另闢之切入角度，從而提出研究之目的、論文架構與考察方法。
　　第二章「道的探尋──近現代儒佛思想背景」，以探尋文化現象之內在理路，並統整論列代表性思想典型為途徑，分別論述佛學與儒學在近現代思潮下特異的發展脈絡，以及儒佛交涉之新型態與共通的精神樣態，由此呈現居士生長背景之時代問題，及其思想養成之土壤空氣。
　　第三章「李炳南之成學歷程與著作特色」，分別從生命史之考察、思想淵源之追溯及著作性質與內容特色統整，呈現李炳南居士之人格典範、學思歷程、學脈之傳承、治學之規模與特質、行道與弘化之總體精神。由第二章橫向考察與第三章縱向分析，以期對於進入李炳南居士思想之細部內涵，能有一知人論世之準確把握。
　　第四章「李炳南儒佛思想擷華與培實」，透過著述內容要義之闡發、教學弘化實踐之分析、與近現代儒佛思想背景之對比回應，對居士儒佛思想內涵與型態，進行通盤而細緻地詮釋與定位，由此突顯其儒學、佛學思想各自特殊性與相互貫通發明之理路，以及儒佛會通之多元型態與實踐創發。
　　第五章「結論」簡要總結全文論旨，並將眼光從「回顧」導向「展望」，反思李炳南居士之儒佛思想於當代的意義。

Kulapati Lee Bing-nan (1890-1986) responded to the cultural crises of modern China through his commitment in education. One distinctive feature of his teachings is a twin devotion to Confucianist and Buddhist philosophies. Through such devotion, Lee has become an instrumental figure in the transmission of Confucian Spirituality and Pure Land belief in post-war Taiwan.
From the late Qing through the early Republican period, Buddhism in China undergone its own crises and chances of revitalization, while traditional (Confucian) culture was saddled with the decision to persist or to reform. Lee can be said to be one of the typical historical figures who partook in the distribution and development of Confucianism and Buddhism in the epoch.
This study of Lee’s Confucian-Buddhist philosophy aims to reveal the spirit of his thinking and the ultimate concern in his intellectual pursuits. It will also highlight the originality and significance of Lee’s philosophy.
