本論文探討在Z切鈮酸鋰基板上成功地以鎳金屬擴散式以及鎂誘鋰外擴散式製作出適用於藍光波段(473nm)的單模態通道式光波導;實驗結果顯示不但擴散時間較傳統鈦擴散式波導來得短暫,亦無需添加鋰離子平面外擴散層的抑制劑。根據實驗所製作出鎳波導的普極化線寬為1.6μm,非普極化線寬僅約1.3μm,比鈦波導線寬來得窄,所以製程上較為困難;鎂誘鋰波導線寬則是4μm。 由於操作於短波段,筆者亦嘗試量測該兩種直波導的光折效應,並另外量測了鎂誘鋰式方向耦合器的光折效應。結果推斷兩者在藍光波段抗光折能力的表現上皆比鈦波導略為遜色。
Both nickel-indiffused (NI) and magnesium-oxide-induced lithium outdiffusion (MILO) optical waveguides on Z-cut lithium niobate at blue laser wavelength (473nm) are successfully fabricated for the first time. Experimental results show that the diffusion time is shorter than that of the conventional titanium-indiffused (TI) waveguide, and no extra suppression of unwanted lithium outdiffusion is required. By trial-and-error, the width of single-mode NI waveguide is found 1.6um for the ordinary polarization and becomes 1.3um for extraordinary one, which are narrower than that of the TI waveguide. However, the width of single-mode MILO waveguide is 4um, which is wider than that of the TI waveguide. Moreover, the photorefractive effects of straight waveguides are measured, and so is the directional coupler of MILO. The results show that both kinds of waveguides perform less resistant to blue laser than the TI waveguide.
