In addition to the tradition way of learning Tai Chi Chuan, we propose a smart learning system for Tai Chi Chuan which captures multiple information, offers various feedback and provides multiple stages for learning. Multiple sensors are used in this system: a Microsoft Kinect sensor for capturing 3D skeletal movement information, Myo gesture control armbands for arms orientation, and pressure sensing shoes for plantar pressure information. Various feedback such as sensors’ visualized information, guidance hints, and a record review browser with summary feedback are offered in this system. Multiple stages for learning are provided, which focus on different part of Tai Chi Chuan instruction and gradually reduce the user’s reliance on guidance and feedback. We evaluated our system and how having body weight center feedback improve the performance of learning Tai Chi Chuan movement in the user study. The result demonstrated that our system is suitable for learning Tai Chi Chuan, and learning body center weight have a great impact on learning Tai Chi Chuan movement.
