On the willingness factors of senior citizens living in elderly communities Abstract It is a very important issue for aging of population. According to the definition given by World Health Organization (WHO); if the percentage of people who are older than 65 years old is greater than 7% of total population, it is an aging society. Since the aging population issue becomes worse and worse, it is a great challenge for the world to put emphasis on senior care in 21st century. The main goals of the study are focused on the willingness factors of senior citizens living in elderly communities, and to understand how senior citizens live in elderly communities. The subjects of the study are retired Taiwanese who are older than 50 years old. The included subjects are able to execute activities of daily living (ADL) by themselves. There are 1139 subjects in Taiwan included in this study. By descriptive analysis, crosstable analysis, and discriminant analysis, we would like to discuss the willingness of the senior citizens to live in elderly communities and reasons to live in. The results of this study are as following: (1). 25.55% of subjects would like to live in elderly communities; 63.3% of subjects depend on their situation; 11.15% of subjects do not want to live in elderly communities. Most of the subjects think they would depend on their situation. We think that there is potential to have them being willing to live in elderly communities. (2). Based on the discriminant analysis, male, junior high school graduated, Buddhist, and people who believe in I-Kuan Tao in ‘tendency factors’, be able to pay between 10,000 and 15,000 NT dollars per month without any deposit in ‘ability factors’ and dreamed place to stay after retire in ‘demand factors’ affect more on the illingness of our subjects to live in elderly communities . Overall, the correct probabilities of classifications in our study are 64.7%.
