Design and Implementation of an IoT based Smart Home Care System for Monitoring Sleeping and Toileting Activities

The global population ageing is already a trend. Technological and medical advances have extended life expectancy, but with aging, there is still a lot of sick and pain. With the decline of family structure, the big family in the past is no longer existing and instead, many small families are formed. It also means that the burden and pressure of young people is getting heavier and heavier. Most long-term care institutions in our country is ward-type care. Most elderly people want to live with their children and enjoy warmth and care and get ending at home. Their child also want to provide the fully support within their capabilities. Therefore, home care is the best choice and the most acceptable way for healthcare. But it is not easy for home care. One of the important reasons is that children have to go to work on weekdays and cannot be accompanied with them all the time. This has resulted in a lot of worry and worry. This thesis aims to improve home care security by deploying various sensor devices in the home, collecting relevant data in daily life and analyzing on the back-end platform. This work can help understand the sleeping and toileting habits and behaviors, which is able to discover the behavioral abnormalities of the elderly, issue warning notices to the care giver on time, and improve the quality of life in home care.
