Background With the advent of the aging society, in order to effectively promote health, prevent aging and delay disability, so that the elderly can achieve the goals of successful aging, healthy body and mind, and local aging, we look forward to using Self-Healing courses for the elderly to strengthen Self-Healing and develop a healthy lifestyle. However, in the past, few studies have investigated the health-promoting lifestyle of elderly people over 55 years old after intervention in self-healing programs. Objective To learn about the basic demographics, health status, and lifestyle of the elderly. To explore the differences in the Health-Promoting Lifestyles of the elderly after the intervention of basic demographic data and Self-Healing programs. Methods The experimental research design was adopted. The selected places for this survey were the senior citizens in a Community Care Center and a Senior Citizens’ Learning Center in the central part of the country. There are 20 seniors over the age of 55. In addition to participating in regular courses, they received a 2-hour Self-Healing course once a week, which totaled 6 weeks. Before and after the intervention, the elderly’s Health Promotion status was assessed by the Updated version of the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile. All the data were conducted through statistical analysis of SPSS 22.0. Results 40 seniors, after the intervention of the Self-Healing course once a week for 6 weeks, 2 hours each time, a total of 12 hours of the Self-Healing course, have got the test results in accordance with the updated version of the Health Promotion Lifestyle Scale (average value ± standard deviation) (pre-test 122.65 ± 15.50; post-test 139.68 ± 10.43), the results post-test is greater than the those of the pre-test (p<0.001); in the seven aspects of the scale the scores are greater than the those of the pre-test, (p<0.001) (see Table 8) (Graph 22). In terms of gender, there was a significant difference in exercise behavior (p<0.05); in terms of education level, junior and senior high school backgrounds, are higher than those with primary school backgrounds; and in Health Promotion total scores and living habits, there was a significant difference (p<0.05); in dietary habits, vegetarian’s scores were more than meat eaters’ and achieved significantly better as well in exercise behaviors (p<0.05) (see Table 7). The post-tests were greater than the pre-tests for 20 seniors in the Community Care Centers or those in the Senior Learning Center (p<0.05) Among them, the post-test of the total score on health promotion, stress management, health responsibility, self-realization, and Health-Promoting Lifestyle reached a significant difference p<0.05. (see Table 9). The elderly in the Senior Learning Center have a greater overall improvement in effectiveness and magnitude than those in the community base (see Table 10) (Graph 22). Conclusion The study found that the application of the Self-Healing courses in the Health Promotion of Seniors' Lifestyles has significant differences whether it is analyzed whole or in varied aspects, and in a Community Care Center or a Senior Learning Center. It demonstrates that the Self-Healing courses are worthy of promotion. Even at an advanced age, people are willing to understand and implement various methods of health promotion. Let’s look forward to the Self-Healing courses increasing healthy life expectancy, delaying aging, and making the elderly live longer and pristine.
