西方翻譯文學作品大學生閱讀行為研究:以政治大學為例

Reading behaviors of western translational literature for undergraduate students: case study of National Chengchi University

摘要


西方翻譯文學作品為臺灣翻譯類書籍之大宗,在臺灣的書市發展穩定、廣受讀者歡迎,而有相關研究指出大學生可能為西方翻譯文學作品的讀者群之一。故本研究之研究目的如下:(1)探討偏好閱讀西方翻譯文學作品的大學生背景與其所閱讀的西方翻譯文學作品類型;(2)探討大學生閱讀西方翻譯文學作品之內隱動機與外顯行為;(3)探討大學生所閱讀的西方翻譯文學作品與圖書館使用之關聯性;(4)探討不同背景之大學生閱讀的西方翻譯文學作品類型、閱讀行為與圖書館使用差異;(5)探討大學生閱讀不同西方翻譯文學作品類型的閱讀行為與讀物來源差異。   本研究採問卷調查法,正式問卷係基於Wigfield & Guthrie(1997)的「閱讀動機量表」、以及過往相關文獻之參考與綜整建構出問卷架構草案後,據此設計問卷草案以實施前測,並根據前測結果修訂而成,包含基本資料、西方翻譯文學作品類型、西方翻譯文學作品閱讀行為,分為內隱動機與外顯行為、以及圖書館使用情形四部分,發放予政大大學生,實際回收有效問卷805份,並以統計軟體SPSS22.0進行資料分析。   經問卷分析結果,本研究共提出八點結論。在大學生之西方翻譯文學作品偏好與閱讀行為部分,有下列四點結論:(1)偏好閱讀西方翻譯文學作品之大學生多為「女性」、就讀「外國語文學院」、年級為「大一」;(2)大學生偏好閱讀之西方翻譯文學作品多為原著來自「美國」、「英國」兩國的「小說」,主題則主要為「暢銷書」、「經典文學」、「電影原著」、「科幻/奇幻冒險」、「懸疑推理」;(3)大學生閱讀西方翻譯文學作品之內隱動機偏高,且偏向休閒性閱讀,而翻譯文學所帶有的跨文化特性、西方翻譯文學作品內容所引發的興趣、以及受到市場上各項好書指標的吸引,係引發大學生閱讀西方翻譯文學作品的主要動機;(4)大學生閱讀西方翻譯文學作品的頻率為一個月以上閱讀一次、每週約閱讀半小時至2小時,多選在家中或宿舍進行閱讀活動,閱讀的數量則為每月兩本以下,並多由實體、網路書店與圖書館取得讀物,且偏好閱讀紙本書。   在大學生閱讀之西方翻譯文學作品類型、閱讀行為、圖書館使用之影響因素與相關性部分,則有以下四點結論:(5)大學生閱讀西方翻譯文學作品之內隱動機與外顯行為中的「閱讀頻率」、「閱讀時間」、「閱讀數量」呈低度正相關;(6)大學生所閱讀之西方翻譯文學作品源自政大圖書館之比例偏高,但就頻率而言稍低,而平時使用圖書館一般館藏之比例與頻率則都偏高,兩者呈中度正相關;(7)大學生之不同背景會對其閱讀的西方翻譯文學作品主題、閱讀行為、以及圖書館使用產生影響;(8)大學生閱讀不同體裁、原著國家的西方翻譯文學作品之內隱動機有所差異;其閱讀之不同主題則會對讀物源自政大圖書館的頻率產生影響。   據此,本研究最後提出四項建議供臺灣出版界與大學圖書館參考,以提升大學生西方翻譯文學作品閱讀活動,與大學圖書館西方翻譯文學作品館藏之利用:(1)調整西方翻譯文學作品之出版方向;(2)適時進行西方翻譯文學作品館藏維護;(3)建置特定西方翻譯文學作品主題館藏專區;(4)舉辦西方翻譯文學作品相關館藏之推廣活動。

Western translational literature is the main translational books in Taiwan with stable development and great popularity among readers. Previous study has indicated that undergraduate students might be one of the reader groups of western translational literature. Therefore, the purposes of the study are as follows: (1) to probe the background and the preferences of undergraduates who enjoy reading western translational literature; (2) to investigate the implicit motivation and explicit behaviors of undergraduates on reading western translational literature; (3) to explore the relationship between the western translational literature that undergraduates read and their library use; (4) to analyze the differences in western translational literature types, reading behaviors, and library use among undergraduates from different background; (5) to analyze the differences in reading behaviors and reading sources of undergraduates among different western translational literature types. This study applied an online questionnaire which first took Wigfield & Guthrie (1997)’s “The Motivation for Reading Questionnaire (MRQ)”, and relevant research as reference to build the structure of the questionnaire, a draft then was designed and was put into practice as the pre-test. After that, the draft was revised to the formal one based on the results of the pre-test. The formal questionnaire includes four sections: personal background, western translational literature types, reading behaviors (implicit motivations and explicit behaviors) of western translational literature, and library use. It was delivered to the undergraduates of NCCU, and a total of 805 valid samples were collected. The data is analyzed by using SPSS22.0. Through the statistical results, the conclusion is summarized into eight points. Regarding the preferences and reading behaviors of western translational literature for undergraduate students, the conclusion are as follows: (1) undergraduates that enjoy reading western translational literature are mostly “female”, studying in “College of Foreign Languages & Literature”, and are “freshman”; (2) undergraduates enjoy reading western translational “novels” from “America” and “England”, and their favorite topics includes “bestsellers”, “classic”, “original work of movie”, “sci-fi/fantasy adventure,” and “mystery/suspense”; (3) undergraduates have high implicit motivations in reading western translational literature, and they tend to read for pleasure, furthermore, the cultural openness of translational literature, the interesting content of it, and the attraction of signs that lead to good works are the three main motivations; (4) undergraduates tend to read western translational literature once a month or less, half an hour to two per week. They read mostly at home or in dorm, two or less books per month, and they often reach the reading materials from bookstores and libraries, along with choosing to read print books. As to the factors that affect the preferences and reading behaviors of western translational literature, library use for undergraduate students and the relationship among these variables, the conclusion are as follows: (5) low positive correlation is found among implicit motivation and “reading frequency”, “reading time”, and “reading quantity” of the explicit behaviors for undergraduates reading western translational literature; (6) high proportion of western translational literature that undergraduates read comes from NCCU library, while the frequency is relatively low; besides, both proportion and frequency of undergraduates using the library collections are high, moderately positive correlation is found between these two variables; (7) different background of undergraduates will affect the topics they read and reading behaviors of western translational literature, and their library use; (8) different implicit motivation of undergraduates is found while reading different genres of western translational literature and originals from different countries, moreover, the frequency of undergraduates using western translational literature collections will be affected by different topics they read. According to the results, four suggestions were made as reference for the publishing industry in Taiwan and university library: (1) adjust the publishing direction according to the research findings; (2) properly maintain the western translational literature collections; (3) establish special collection areas of western translational literature; (4) hold library promoting event related to western translational literature collections.
