混合有線電視/正交分頻多工光信號傳輸系統

在近幾年來,隨著手持設備的蓬勃發展以及有線與無線通訊的需求日漸增益,導致頻寬的提供越來越不足,面對這些挑戰,最好的方式就是建構一套混合式傳輸系統。   在這篇論文中,我們提出並證明了一個集合長距離被動光網路與漸變式塑膠光纖之混合式有線電視 (Cable television, CATV) /正交分頻多工 (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing, OFDM) 傳輸系統。將適合的正交分頻多工及有線電視訊號載入一有線電視發射機,從局端經由六十公里單模光纖 (single mode fiber, SMF) 和二十五公尺漸變式塑膠光纖 (graded-index plastic optical fiber, GI-POF) 傳輸至用戶裝置。雖然單模光纖與漸變式塑膠光纖擁有不同的纖核直徑和衰減特性,但是在它們兩者之間不需任何電路及轉換機制,對於網路服務業者來說,可以直接管裡那些距離較遠的郊區用戶或是偏遠地帶的用戶。在這種情況下,可以大幅降低封包延遲及封包框架大小,並且更簡易的維持服務品質。本論文之混合式傳輸系統不僅有良好的傳輸性能,亦可有效的拓展網域至偏遠郊區應用。

In recent years, with the ubiquitous popularity of handheld devices, the demands on wireless and wired-line capacity have grown rapidly. The next generation communication systems require large data rate and broadband services highly. Hybrid transport system is promising candidates to meet the demands in wireless and wire-lined optical access networks. In this research, we proposed and demonstrate an integrated long-reach passive optical network (PON) and in-house graded-index plastic optical fiber (GI-POF) network architecture for hybrid cable television (CATV) /orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals transmission. By reasonably multiplexing the OFDM and CATV signals in to a CATV transmitter, both signals originated from a central office (CO) are successfully transmitted over a span of 60 km single mode fiber (SMF) and another span of 25 m GI-POF to consumers’ devices. Although the SMF and GI-POF have different core sizes and attenuation features, no any bridge circuit or wavelength converter is utilized between them resulting in a transparent platform for the Internet service providers (ISPs) to directly manage their long-distance services in suburban or rural areas. In this case, the average packet delay and packet overhead size can be greatly reduced and the quality of services (QoS) can be maintained easier. Good experimental performances of the CATV and OFDM signals transmissions proof the practice and efficiency of this proposal to extend multimedia services from metro areas to suburban or rural areas.
