多層式儲存格反及閘快閃記憶體之管理

The Management Model for MLC NAND Type Flash Memory Systems

摘要


反及閘快閃記憶體因具有輕薄短小、大容量、耐撞擊、雜訊少、耗電低及可靠性等優點,因此反及閘快閃記憶體成為移動或嵌入式系統中最佳的儲存裝置。再者,由於資訊及網路的發達,影音的多媒體運用已成為必然趨勢。然而多媒體運用中必須大容量儲存裝置配合,所以反及閘快閃記憶體中的多層式儲存格型態記憶體亦符合此需求。但多層式儲存格反及閘快閃記憶體由於半導體物理特性之故,不能原地覆寫、單位編成/抹除次數有限,並且單位存取及抹除單位並非相同,所以如何有效管理使用空間是一值得探討議題。因此,本論文中針對多層式儲存格反及閘快閃記憶體的物理特點提出管理模式,以發揮多層式儲存格反及閘快閃記憶體高速存取特性及減少系統額外成本,以提高系統可靠度增加使用期限。

NAND type flash memory owns small, lightweight, high storage capacity, nonvolatile, vibration-resistant, less noise, high reliability. Since NAND type flash memory is essential storage device in portable and embedded system. Moreover, the multimedia was popular application because the development of information and network. The multimedia application needs large capacity storage device, and MLC NAND type flash memory can meet this requirement. But, MLC NAND type flash memory has two limitations: the data cannot be updated in situ, and the number of erase operations is limited. Besides, the read/write and erase unit size is not the same. So, how to manage flash space effectively is a research issue. Therefore, we propose our management method to reduce system cost and enhance reliability in accordance with MLC NAND type flash memory property.
