WiMAX網路之網管設計與流量分析

摘要


基於IEEE 802.16系列標準的無線寬頻網路發展已漸趨成熟,其主要訴求除了高速率外,支援不同應用之服務品質保證 (Quality-of-Service)是大家所企盼的,當然相對的其複雜度也因此遠較一般無線網路高許多了。在這樣的環境下,瞭解網路資料流量的特質與一個完整有效的網路管理機制,對系統運作而言將扮演重要的角色。此及本論文研究之重點所在。 本論文旨在建構一套通用型WiMAX網管系統,對網路進行監控,並經由監測與記錄資料傳遞行為來分析在WiMAX網路下的流量特質。流量分析的目標在檢視其是否具有自我相似之特性,因為此特性對允入與頻寬配置以及排程設計之效能會有很大的影響。至於整個網管系統將遵循SNMP 2c標準來設計這是一個通用型的系統可以是用於WiMAX、WLAN、個人電腦乃至任何其他符合SNMP標準之網通設備,具有高度之實用性。

The increasing demand of large bandwidth with efficient and flexible infrastructures in today’s internet world has initiated the development of Wireless MAN. It is believed as the ultimate network standard for the future which is collaborated multivendor networking system, deploying a broad range of IEEE 802.16 based system that are interoperable. Since the standard has been developed by the experts from around the world to accommodate many technical aspects and certain condition in specific area, the complexity of this Wireless MAN system, which was later defined as WiMAX compliance system, became higher. Those led to the consideration of applying Network Management System. Several network management standards have been proposed for years and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is known as the most popular network management in today’s internet world. This fact has guided the working group to develop Wireless MAN network management standards based on this IETF standard. This research developed a Network Manager Station (NMS) system by using SNMP protocol that would be applied to manage the operation of a fixed WiMAX system defined in IEEE 802.16-2004 Standard. Some management-related objects will be grouped in several management categories based on their functionality and then displayed either in value or graph representation. The manager itself will be built in Java EE platform by utilizing existing open-source libraries for SNMP. In addition, the developed NMS will be used to monitor the WiMAX system for traffic analysis purpose. Self similarity concept is recognized by the experts as the best way to model the traffic over a packet-switched network instead of conventional Poisson model, especially to show the burst properties. Therefore, self-similarity characteristic in WiMAX system will be assessed and some possible suggestions for future research will be explained as the results.
