Application of Active Noise Control to Distribution Transformers Noise Attenuation

An active measure of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) in the reduction of acoustic noise generated by transformer used in Taiwan Power Company is proposed in this paper. As most of the common Electricity Distribution Facilities have placed lots of transformers, the acoustic noise can be achieved 60dB. People living around Taiwan Power Company are annoyed, complaining the living quality is seriously affected. The conventional passive measure of sound absorbers cannot have significant effect in reduction of low frequency of transformer noise. In order to improve and reduce acoustic noise, an active means of ANC is proposed to control transformer noise. The proposed ANC system is cooperated with STC VC32 conformity system as the controller and is coordinated with microphones, loudspeakers and amplifiers. In the simulation, different frequency singles of 120Hz, 240Hz and 360Hz are generated and the noise that recorded from the transformer in Electricity Distribution Facilities are both transferred to the loudspeaker to simulate the transformer noise. The noiseless area around the attenuate loudspeaker is taken as a concept to reduce the acoustic noise. Experimental results show that there is a significant reduction in narrowband frequency noise due to the proposed ANC system.
