In this thesis, an outage and fault detection system for power distribution network is proposed. The system consists of three parts including outage and fault detector, outage information processing system and operation management system. The outage and fault detector is composed of a transformer outage detector and a powerline overload detector. After the outage and fault detector detect outage or fault, it sends the message to the outage information processing system in control center by GSM wireless transmission module or PSTN wire transmission module. There is the outage and fault management system in the outage information processing system. Using the contents of the message that sent from detector to infer the rational fault place through the algorithm with the database of the operation management system.
