Abstract Recently side chain liquid crystalline polymers(LCP) have attacted considerable of interst owing to their ability ofcombining the electro-optical of LCs with the execellent me-chanical characteristics of polymeric materials. This bifun-ction properties has potential for application in information storage. The magnitude of response time of LCPs to an externalstimulation, i.e. an electric or a magnetic field, is signifi-cantly longer than that of LCs because LCPs, in mesophase state, being more viscouse than LCs. aggregation states and transient light scattering in the ch-iral smectic C phase of LCP/LC mixture hase been studied. The LC serves as a solvent or diluent for LCP,has been previously studied for the sake of reducing the viscousity of the LCP.The trasients scattering mode (TSM) was obtained by repeated vo-ltage polarity reversal. The reversible transparent- opaque change was observed in the chiral smectic C state upon application ofelectric fields with low and high frequencises, respectively.Bothtransparent and opaque state could be maintained stably even when electric field was turned off.Anovel type of electrio-optical eff-ect based on light scattering was obtained for FLCP/LC in the chiral smectic C state.
