智慧型手機動態競爭型態研究

A Study of the Pattern of Competitive Dynamics in the Smart Phone Industry

摘要


過去的很多策略研究多專注在靜態的架構,但這類的架構無法直接的反映公司間的競爭型態。因此此研究利用動態競爭的觀點去了解市場的競爭型態。 利用智慧型手機產業裡焦點公司與競爭公司的觀點提出了三個主要的假設。並利用自由時報蒐集了四家主要的智慧型手機廠商, HTC, NOKIA, RIM and APPLE,的所有競爭新聞資訊與利用美國證券交易委員會(SEC)、華頓資料庫(WRDS)和公開資訊觀測站(MOPS) 蒐集四家主要廠商, HTC, NOKIA, RIM and APPLE,的財務資料,蒐集時間從2007年第三季到2010年第二季,再利用結構內容法並加入時間序列的概念去分析我們的假設。 此研究發現在智慧型手機產業裡,個別廠商不會針對個別廠商進行攻擊動作,只會針對整個市場進行策略性的活動。此研究也發現HTC, NOKIA, RIM 此三家廠商會關注彼此的一舉一動。但是APPLE是一個例外,它不理會其它廠商的攻擊動作,並試著主導整個市場。

There are so many strategic articles focusing on the subject of competition, most of them have been done from a simple and static framework, which is not directly related to firm’s competition in reality. Therefore, the research exploits competitive dynamics model to discuss firm’s competition, and examines market reaction on firm’s strategic behavior under this model to test firm’s performance. The research has three hypotheses, which are used to analyze the competition in smart phone industry from initiator and rival firms’ perspective respectively. The research collects data from The Liberty Times since the third quarter of 2007 to the end of the second quarter of 2010. The research collects all companies’ net profits since the third quarter of 2007 to the end of the second quarter of 2010 from the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) and Market Observation Post System (MOPS) use structured content analysis and time series to test our hypotheses. The research found out individual firm does not do attacks against individual firm. Only doing attack moves against the entire market. The research also found that HTC, NOKIA, RIM manufacturers, these three companies pay attention to each other manufacturers' moves in the smart industry. But APPLE is a exception which try to be dominant in this industry.
