The proportion of female principals of elementary schools and high schools in Tauyuan county rose from 20% in the 90th academic year to more than 32% in the 99th one. This represents a highly significant increase. In the foreseeable future, moreover, one could reasonably predict a further increase in the number of female principles, to the extent that they may even outnumber male principals. Apart from this increase in number, the roles of female educational professionals are gradually changing. Most female educational professionals are still front-line teachers. An increasing number of them, however, are participating in the process of making educational policy, or even serve as principal determiners of educational policy. This thesis is based on a review of the literature of leadership theories, as well as first-hand, in-depth interviews with two female principals who received the Award for Excellence in Educational Leadership. The author has attempted to categorize the key factors of how female principals successfully utilize their personal leadership traits in the practice of everyday school administration, and thereby achieve outstanding educational results. The author sincerely hopes that, via the perusal of this thesis, female teachers may obtain useful concepts and tools that put them on a more successful path in their professional development and in the careers to which they are devoted.
