The knowledge economy leads to rapid changes in the market and brings new challenges to companies. In order to handle increasingly complex tasks, companies encourage organizational members to work together. Teams and teamwork become a common setting for organizations. The trend of team is especially important for organizations to create new knowledge and innovation. How to enhance teams’ capability to innovate, thus, becomes a critical issue for scholars and managers. Previous research on team innovation focused on such antecedents as leadership styles, communication, within-team knowledge sharing, and perceived social support from the environment (Egri & Herman, 2000; Vicere, 2002). Little attention had been paid to the relationship between team members. Existing studies have found that team trust and team emotional intelligence are important factors of team innovation (Garbarino & Johnson, 1999; Berry, 2000). However, the mechanism of how team trust and team emotional intelligence influence team innovation remains unclear. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between team emotional intelligence, trust, collective efficacy, and team innovation. More specifically, the study proposes that team emotional intelligence affect team innovation and collective efficacy through enhanced team trust. Questionnaires will be used to collect data from 61 teams from local business organizations. Research indicate that team emotional intelligence can affect collective efficacy through enhanced team trust. The findings expect to shed a new light for the team innovation literature.
