The research reconstructs the appearance of divorced middle-aged and elderly women according to their life experience, and then explores the significance of “gender consciousness” upon their life. First, this research will adopt “semi-structured interviews” of the qualitative research as its research method. Interview questions were prepared to explore “The Gender Consciousness Awakening Process of Divorced Middle-aged and Elderly Women” for proceeding interviews and analysis of data. These three divorced women interviewed are still single after their divorce; Plum flower, Kapok, and Cymbidium are their pseudonyms. I began to conduct interviews after we met several times. Secondly, these divorced women were born in 1961 - 1962. Recalling these years, due to it being Taiwan's martial law period (1949-1987), the whole society reinforced the sense of patriarchal, male-dominated females, and females dependent upon the male. However, how did these socially ignored middle-aged and elderly women, in the face of a serious event like divorce, re-look their life after the enlightenment of gender consciousness? Expect their stories to be an inspiration to the plight of other women. Finally, in this research, I separate "the gender consciousness awakening process" into five different periods: "no gender consciousness, gender consciousness enlightenment, gender consciousness awakening, independent woman, concern for society" and so on. To prove "the gender consciousness awakening" is of great significance in the life of middle-aged and elderly divorced women. Keywords: the elderly, divorced women, gender consciousness
