Gender identity, sexual behavior, and social conditions of lesbian women are different from heterosexual women, so lesbian women’s medical experiences as well as their needs for healthcare might differ. The researcher has conducted nineteen in-depth interviews with lesbian women and five interviews with medical practitioners who have had lesbian patients. This study focuses on lesbian women’s interaction with the medical system in Taiwan, and the way in which sexuality is understood by both heterosexual physicians and lesbian patients during medical practices. In addition, this study examines lesbian women as medical users through the lens of ’professional-user relationship’ in order to discover which types of strategies lesbian women prefer when it comes to issues concerned their sexuality. This study shows that whether medical practitioners are aware of the diversity of sexuality makes a big difference on lesbian women’s medical experiences. Moreover, lesbian women’s sexuality can mean differences of sexual behavior, partner relationships, and social supporting systems. Therefore, sexuality implicitly influences patients’ medical experiences in certain medical divisions. Lesbian women’s body images and gender attributes also affect their willingness to go to physicians and strategies they might take.
