The Association between IL-17A-692 Gene Polymorphism and Periodontal Disease in a Taiwan Han Population

Objectives: A new subset of CD4+ T cells was discovered and has been named as Th-17 cells. Th-17 cells secret pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-17A. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms of IL-17A-692 and the risk of developing periodontitis in Taiwan Han population. Material and method: There were 270 subjects which were classified as health control group (HC, N=64), chronic periodontitis (CP, N=122), and aggressive periodontitis (AgP, N=84) .The SNP of IL-17A-692 (rs8193036) was determined by Real Time Tagman probe PCR. Result: The genotype distribution in the smoking group showed significantly different between the HC and periodontitis (p = 0.0158) After the adjustments of variations such as sex, age, the prevalence of the CC+CT genotype compared with the TT genotypes was no longer significantly different (p=0.096) . Conclusion: The result indicated the genotype distribution was significant different between HC and CP in smoking group(p=0.0103), and the HC and periodontitis group was significant. We presume the smoking could interfere the behavior of genotype.
