鏡像階段(Mirror Stage)是拉岡(Lacan)提出,人類在嬰兒時期尚無獨立行動能力時,從鏡子中看見自己的軀體,進而和抱著自己的母親做區分,之後確認自我的存在的一個階段。我們先藉此瞭解到外在自我的存在,並且確認主體(Subject)的行動舉行能夠反映在鏡像中的自我(ego)。 自我意識的存在得到了確立之後,我們不滿足於外在對自我的瞭解,進而以他人(另一個主體)為鏡像,倚靠他人的言語來瞭解自我內在的樣態。而當我們在尋求無論外在或內在的自我樣態時,必然會先有一個預期,之後不管是對鏡像所得到的視覺影像或他人口中得到的聽覺訊息,都是在做一個確認的動作,確認其“反映”出來的樣貌是否和預期相同。若結果相同,則因為感到自己能夠瞭解自我而產生正向情緒,若反之則會對其“鏡像”產生質疑或疑問。 作者接著引述德勒茲(Gilles Deleuze)的概念,透過改變主體、自我與鏡面的主被動關係,產生一連串似曾存在又無法確認的自我表情,這些運動-影像的表情仿佛曾存在於我們生活之中,在開口說話之際或在哭臉轉變成笑臉的中間,但卻被我們所忽略了,因為不承認其存在。不儘只是外在,內在自我的個性及情緒也常出現相同的轉變而不自知,透過外在反射內在的自我意識,嘗試接受及瞭解自我的多面性。洞查我們隨著成長而轉變的生理和心理。 在數位環境下,我們擁有許多被數位化的機會,主體正在被掃瞄著,我們不曾認識幾萬分之一秒中的自己。在時間的片段當中,自我其實是支離破碎的,藉由速度的欺瞞,我們誤以為自我是完整且連貫的。作者更進一步在此討論,數位環境下,自我其實是流變的,片段的,更可能是扭曲的,我們必須重新認識當下流變中的自我。
