This thesis is divided into five chapters. In chapter one, I focus on how I entered the world of dancing. Through a brief introduction of my background in the dance study, I intend to let reader understand how I was trained as a student within the dance education system in Taiwan. In chapter two, I analyze the concept of “self-body.” I relate past experience in dance to my own personality. Through my study in the dance graduate program, I explore how I transformed my education into three styles incorporated in my graduated performance. In chapter three, I explore the lighting, music, props and space on the stage to re-examine how those impact my action in the performance. More important, I would like to relay the meaning of relationships between dancers. Besides movement analysis, I have employed basic psychoanalytic perspective to analyze the variety of time, space and the role of the performance. In chapter four, I apply the eight Efforts of Laban Movement Analysis, to explore the connection between motion and emotion in my performance. I intend to display how the different movements show emotional changes on dancers. With a psychological perspective, I can examine specific need of the performance. In the final chapter, I review the performance of “Companion,” the title of my full graduate concert. These three works link the cooperative relationship and decision-making that is reflected in my performance. Here, I discuss the essence of communication and coordination among body movements and relationships in all fields with psychological analysis.
