The paper studies the effect of local weather on the Stock Market and Futures Market in Taiwan . The weather variables studied in the paper involves the daily temperature, humidity, and cloud cover data collected from Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung, the three major cities in northern, central and southern Taiwan. The findings of this study indicate that Stock daily rate of return is higher in the days when there is lower levels of cloud cover, and that Stock daily trading volume is higher in the days when temperature is lower or when there is lower levels of cloud cover.The findings of this study indicate that Futures daily price is higher in the days when there is lower levels of cloud cover or higher of humidity , and that Futures daily trading volume is higher in the days when temperature is higher or when higher of humidity. The effect of typhoon on the Stock daily trading volume and Futures price are noticeable in the study.
