Abstract The main purpose of this thesis is to evaluate and comment the Chinese translation and the translation process of US Air Force doctrine, “Airspace Control in the Combat Zone”. This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter states the motive and the summary of the doctrine. The second chapter is a translation theory review on the three principles of translation of Alexander Fraser Tytler which serves as a guidance of this thesis. Furthermore, the comparison is made between Fu Lei’s and Tytler’s theories. The third chapter gives the translation. The fourth chapter discusses the practice of the translation and states the translation process in three steps: understanding, expressing and proofreading with some examples. The fifth chapter sums up this author’s insights and gains from the translating process of this thesis.
