歐美影集中專業術語之字幕翻譯策略

摘要

早期引進台灣的歐美影集，多以情境喜劇居多，此類戲劇字幕翻譯的
重點除了語言本身外，還有如何巧妙譯出言外之意，讓台灣觀眾產生
與國外觀眾相同的感受。近年來，除情境喜劇外，歐美電視台也傾向
製作專業主題式影集，其劇情多圍繞在該領域，對白中亦會出現大量
專業術語。因此，譯者除了需克服語言和文化的藩籬外，更需運用翻
譯策略方能使未具備此專業知識背景的譯語觀眾，在掌握劇情脈動之
外，亦能快速理解專業術語概念。本研究的影集分別是醫學領域《實
習醫生》（Grey’s Anatomy）、刑事鑑定《犯罪現場紐約》（CSI-N.Y.）、和數理領域《數字搜查線》（Numb3rs）。本論文以雅各布森的三種翻譯方式為基準，探討專業術語字幕翻譯的策略。同時也分析出專業術語字幕翻譯過程中易產生的問題和因應之道。本研究發現，譯語接受者對術語理解的障礙多來自術語背後概念而非字幕。在策略上可適當運用直譯法、直入法、縮減法、增詞法、和加注法處理專業術語之字幕翻譯。

The earliest TV drama series introduced to Taiwan mostly were situational comedies, or sitcoms. The major tasks of translating sitcoms, are not just to produce accurate subtitles, but to precisely translate the metaphors that are “between the lines” delivering the humorous plot. The
American TV stations tend to produce professional and thematic drama series. The dialogues are often filled with professional terminologies or jargon. The challenges facing translators are more than accurately translating some specific cultural meanings as well as the language itself.
They have to focus on how to make the concept behind the terminology easier for the audience without any professional knowledge to understand. Based on Roman Jacobson’s theory published in 1959, this thesis uses
Grey’s Anatomy: SeasonⅠ& Ⅱ, CSI-N.Y.: Season Ⅰ,
and Numb3rs:Ⅰas case study examples to study the most-common problems and mistranslations and practicable translation strategies adopted by translators in coping with terminology in Chinese subtitles. Translators
may use literal translation, grafting, amplification, reduction, and annotation to cope with different situations.
