摘要

本論文旨在藉翻譯美國文學名著費茲傑羅之《大亨小傳》一書，體驗和實踐筆譯工作流程，並將所學之翻譯技巧和理論加以驗證和應用。本論文共分為五章：第一章為緒論，介紹原著之時代背景、作者生平和著作相關之評論等。第二章簡介一些近代翻譯理論，作為評論譯文時之輔助。第三章記錄翻譯過程及有關中、英語法的探討。第四章列出原文難譯之處，並比較不同版本之譯文，討論譯文對原文之忠實度並指出孰優孰劣。第五章總結筆者翻譯之心得並提出建議。

This thesis discusses the application of translation theories to the translation of Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. It especially notes down the process and the details of the author’s translating the book. This thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter I introduces the background of the book and the author of The Great Gatsby. Chapter II states some contemporary translation theories that help author’s translation. Chapter III records the process of the translation and the comparison between Chinese and English languages. Chapter IV compares different versions of translation, dealing with some difficult English sentences from The Great Gatsby. Chapter V sums up the translation experience and gives suggestions for future translators.
