色彩標示重點詞在不同文本類型中對於中文短文閱讀效益之眼動研究

Color Coding on Keywords in Chinese Reading: An Eye Movement Research

摘要


本研究以眼球追蹤技術,探討在「與讀者生活經驗較低互動」的統計學說明文以及「與生活經驗較高互動」的心理學說明文條件下,將文本中的重點詞以「紅色字體呈現」對大學生閱讀理解說明文的效益。獨變項有二:文本類型(低生活經驗聯結文本、高生活經驗聯結文本)與標示與否(有標示、無標示);依變項為眼動指標,包括整體總凝視時間、興趣區凝視時間及次數、向前回視次數、往後回視次數,以及理解測驗成績。48位參與者皆閱讀20篇有紅色標示及無紅色標示重點詞的高、低生活經驗文本。結果顯示,低生活經驗文本的整體總凝視時間顯著長於高生活聯結文本,表示低生活經驗文本的理解與統整時間需較久;高、低生活經驗文本中,有標示文本皆有顯著較長的興趣區凝視時間及較多凝視次數,表示色彩標示的確能吸引讀者注意力。讀者閱讀高、低生活經驗文本中的有標示版本時,其向前回視次數均顯著少於無標示版本,反映出專家重點詞有幫助讀者整合語意及促進認知處理的效果。有標示高、低生活經驗文本的往後回視次數顯著比無標示文本多,表示讀者依賴重點標示並對其複習整篇文章關鍵概念抱持信念。雖然在理解測驗上並未能看出文本標示與否的差異,但研究結果仍顯示有標示文本的平均得分有較高的趨勢。本研究對於專家重點標示詞有助於提升注意力與認知整合的效果抱持正面態度,教師教學上與教科書採用重點詞標示文本應有助於讀者易於專注於重點詞彙並幫助進行概念整合。

The study aimed to reveal the effects of color-coded keywords in reading background unfamiliar Chinese texts that induce less experience related interaction, and background familiar Chinese texts that induce more experience related interaction. Twenty short articles in statistics and psychology were read by 48 participants; in the meantime their eye movements were recorded by Eyelink 2000 for further analysis on the total fixation time, total fixation counts, interest area fixation counts, and regression counts. Independent variables including two genres (statistics represented background unfamiliar texts and psychology represented background familiar texts) and two versions of texts (keyword-marked and no keyword-marked) were examined by the above eye movement indicators and the participants’ reading comprehension scores. Results showed that total fixation time on background unfamiliar texts was significantly longer than that of background familiar texts; representing more time consuming on background unfamiliar text reading and concept integrating. Keyword-marked version attracted more fixation counts and led to longer total fixation duration; represented that color-coded keywords actually attracted readers’ attention and lengthened the duration on interested areas. Less regression-in counts on keyword-marked version explained the effectiveness of marked keywords on integrating concepts. Besides, more regression-out counts produced from keyword marked version, suggesting that readers preferred to review the marked keywords. Though the comprehension test score did not show significant difference, the positive effect of color-coded keywords still stands out for its attention fostering and serves as good reading aids.
