As more and more genome sequences are sequenced and analyzed, annotations of genomic data become more important. It was estimated that only about 1.5~2% of the human’s 3 billion DNA sequences are genes, which are those DNA segments that could be translated into proteins. In this thesis, we will present the design and implementation of a genome browser that uses genes as units and displays the confirmed genes and unknown genes of selected chromosomes. Currently, the genomes of three species, human, mouse and rat can be selected and browsed. The basic attributes of each gene such as its beginning positions and end positions, numbers of exons, etc, can be shown. Similarly-based searches can be enabled to find family specific genes by comparing gene sequences using BLAST. The result can be displayed graphically and we hope this can help molecular biologists to find the regularity of genes.
