Pop-up books combine the character of “toy books” with “books” and “toys”. These books show rich diversification and variation and give three dimensional spaces that stimulate pre-school children to see and touch, enhance their imagination and creativity. The study of picture books mostly focus on illustration or teaching areas, but the areas on relationship between creativity of pre-school and pop-up books are lacked. The methods applied in this study include personal interview and behavioral observation. We pick up fifteen pre-school children between five to six years old for our study and use three different designs of pop-up books including “ V-Hold, Cut Out and Synthesis”. We have talked to pre-school children and analyzed the contents with four indicators of creativity, they are “imagination, challenge, curiousity and adventure”. This study finds out that the most attractive part for children is the hand-operating in these books. In imagination, more real experience can increase depth and width of imagination. As for challenge, using open questionnaires can encourage children facing such situation for challenge. As for curiousity, children have higher curiousity when facing something unknown, so we use vivid pop-up books to transmit deep knowledge in addition to rising the ability of understanding. As for adventure, children can distinguish story and real life, the favor topic having gender difference. According to four indicators of creativity, the creative work about the pop-up book is named “The Journey to the West”. We hope the study as well as the creative works provide children with suitable outside readings. The future study also can turn talk to parents, teachers, and publishers so that we can deeply explore the relationship among different designs of pop-up books and creativity for children.
