This study aims to explore preferences on office curtains, with questionnaires and surveys to find out more about preferences of users with various attributes. Firstly, this study collects and analyzes data and references. Secondly, it adopts observation, interview, and expert meeting to distinguish and understand preferences among general users and designers regarding office curtains. Taking users that work in the office building of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company located in the Hsinchu Science Park as its questionnaire participants, as well as architects and interior designers based in the northern part of Taiwan. Analysis is conducted on a total number of 352 valid questionnaires. Seven factors are selected from factor analysis, followed by focus group interpretation of each factor. Variance analysis is conducted after each factor is named according to its attribute and characteristics. Followings are the conclusions from this study. (a) Seven factors are selected after factor analysis with valid samples. They are Factor I: texture and style, Factor II: enterprise image, Factor III: sheltering effectiveness, Factor IV: spatial use, Factor V: space beautification, Factor VI: energy conservation and carbon reduction, and Factor VII: noise obstruction respectively. (b) Among all seven factors regarding office curtains usage preferences, genders could lead to significance on Factor I, while occupations result in significant differences on all seven factors. In the meantime, ages contribute certain significance on Factor IV, V, and VII, as seniority causes significance on Factor V and VII. (c) Among all factors, the most preferable factor is Factor I, while the least preferable one is Factor IV. The aforementioned indicates different curtain selections from users, as well as preferences of curtain styles, texture, and colors between users and designers. Finally, suggestions are made to designers in order to provide various considerations when designing office curtain in the future.
