Abstract Historical evidence of traditional markets has existed since 1741. The traditional market is of central importance to most families; be it a morning, wholesale, evening or night market, anywhere in the city with a traditional market is a place where people converge. Along with their rich history, most traditional market buildings have dilapidated walls throughout, which many vendors and customers wish to see restored. The shabbiness is the same reason that puts off many younger generation customers from setting foot in traditional markets and the reason behind the decline of the traditional market. There has been a steady number of city redevelopment plans aimed at improving the environment of various cities and their traditional markets in recent years; listed as one of the planned stations along the Green Line of the Taoyuan Metro, Taoyuan City’s Yonghe Market is slated for impending demolition and reconstruction. In this student’s opinion, Taoyuan City’s Yonghe Market is another place to learn and grow, having been the place where she frequented and learned the ropes of doing business from elders during her youth. This has led to deep feelings and strong sentiments for the traditional market. This research paper seeks to explore the trust, human touch and feelings of nostalgia born from interpersonal relationships and the traditional market, and uses a video interview of vendors sharing their impressions of the Yonghe Market, their attachment to their longtime workplace, and what they think about the demolition of the market. It seeks to document Yonghe Market before its reconstruction in the hope that the publication of this video on various social media platforms, open screenings and exhibitions, will allow the public to witness and appreciate the cooperative and supportive relationship between the vendors, and the warmth and human touch they show to each customer, to redefine the public’s perception of traditional markets and encourage them to shop at traditional markets. This will also preserve the image of Taoyuan City’s Yonghe Market before its demolition. Keywords: traditional market, documentary, (the) human touch, nostalgia, trust, interview
