Illness of the lungs, heart, and blood vessels that may cause hypoxia in organs or tissues will result in various physical and psychological diseases. If oxygen therapy for the treatment of hypoxemia can be used in home care, it will improve the quality of life of patients and reduce mortality. However, general home care medical devices are not as sophisticate as those in hospital which have continuous monitoring and alarm function. This makes it difficult for caregivers to know the patient's hypoxic state and intervene in time. The purpose of this research is to build a monitoring system that is suitable for home care and can continuously monitor a patient’s condition. The sensor on an oxygen nasal cannula using light and air pressure to detect physiological signals, and the signals are processed to obtain the heart rate, blood oxygen saturation concentration and respiratory rate. Oxygen saturation is an important indicator for evaluating hypoxemia. The oxygen saturation signal measured at nasal diaphragm can reflect the changes in oxygen concentration about 20 seconds earlier than the measurement on the fingertips. This can gain valuable time for caregivers when sudden hypoxia occurs. A mobile phone continuously receives the patient's physiological parameters and automatically alarm when the signal is abnormal, so that caregivers do not need to stay by the patient all the time. When an abnormal signal occurs, the App will immediately remind the caregiver to check up the patient's condition. The continuous monitoring and alarm system automatically remind caregivers to take a look and decide whether to call ambulance or not. It not only reduces the burden of caregivers, but also avoids false alarms directly sent to the emergency medical system.
