This study aims to explore the Thaksin Shinawatra government after winning the majority of elected seats in parliament and examine how it gives hope to the democratization process in Thailand. However, despite the Thaksin Shinawatra government’s rise to power and implementation of the policy governance, a military coup took place. Could this mean Thailand’s democratization process has failed? Or is it preordained fate of the populist politics-oriented Thaksin Shinawatra government that has stricken the fundamental interests of politics in Thailand? In this paper, the Thaksin Shinawatra government’s governance model and policy practice from the policy perspectives are reviewed to analyze the significance of the Thaksin Shinawatra government in terms of Thailand’s political transition and democratic development.
