The research aims to explore the effects of counselor’s personal counseling experiences on professional identity. In-depth interviews are used as a data collection approach in this qualitative research and, with purposive sampling, participants are recruited online or from the recommendation of relatives and friends. Finally, five certified counselors are currently engaged in counseling practice attending the interviews. The results are divided into three parts, (1st) the counseling experiences eliciting counselor’s reflections, (2nd) the counselor’s reflections on personal counseling experiences, and (3rd) the effects of counselor’s reflections about personal counseling on professional identity. In the first part, five categories, “counselor’s treatment strategy of specific school”, “counselor’s attitude”, “counselor’s counseling skills”, and “counselor’s inappropriate behavior and intervention”, and “contact outside counseling rooms” are included. The second part consists of three categories, “myth dispelling”, “self-development”, and “professional learning”. The third part encompasses “professional role”, “professional knowledge”, “professional value”, and “professional ethics”. In sum, suggestions derived from the research results can provide counselors, educators, and professional helpers with useful references.
